What I can say as a Japanese person is this: if you're interested in Japan and thinking about moving here, it's better not to. I don’t mean this in a negative way — it's just that, in the end, your family, friends, and partner might not be able to come with you. True happiness is earning money and finding fulfillment in your own country.

You only get criticized for liking different forms of media or different cultures if you happen to be ugly.
Several of my friends are almost as into anime as me (but I will always be king weeb in my friend group 😤), they will immediately get judged for voicing even a passing interest new people.
I on the other hand crossdress on the regular, straight up goth lolita maid style, makeup and all. I identify as a femboy and am not shy about it. But recently I went to a fairly new friend birthday party, totally open about it all and I was told that I looked beautiful and suddenly I was chatting people up and making new anime fans. I didn't even crossdress that day, just threw on some jeans and went.
That's the day I found out I'm kinda cute apparently. Yay me, I guess. but I hate how utterly shallow the world is.

They spread weird stereotypes of us with no factual basis whatsoever and they constantly bash us. Honestly, it’s just racism. The only reason why these actions are not considered as racism is because somehow we East Asians are “white” Asians or “white adjacent” , which is another weird racist stereotypes spread by, you guessed it, other “Asians” and some “white” liberals.

I love Japan myself, but there are things that I cannot accept or understand about Japan. So the fact that people consistently fetishized or romanticize the country is just sad. With all that “discipline” that comes in Japan comes a lot of suffering and questioning your own self worth. And if you’re one of those men thinking of dating someone out there, just be aware that there are A LOT of cultural barriers that you will have to overcome. I speak from experience. Been with my girlfriend for almost 3 years and it was A LOT OF HARD WORK to overcome cultural barriers. I can go on and on about how fucked America is, especially nowadays, but in turn, a lot of the culture shocks I’ve experienced in Japan/my relationship have made me appreciate what my country/culture has.

As a Japanese person, I would like to say that there are many foreigners who mistakenly think that Japan and Korea are similar countries and are disappointed. Our country has a completely different culture, values, history, and people's genetic characteristics from Korea, so even if the atmosphere of the towns is somewhat similar, I want them to know that the environment and experiences will be as different as living in France and living in Poland.
