I am Japanese. I was at my parents’ home when I saw the news. Aerial footage showed the perpetrator lying on the ground shortly after the attack. My mother, sitting beside me, exclaimed, “You deserve the death penalty!”
At that point, the exact number of victims had not yet been confirmed, but even in those early reports, it was already clear that this was an unspeakably brutal and horrific crime.
I don't think the doctor convinced him. I think he just wanted to die already.
This guy had serious mental illness
Why did the viewer did it?
No, the drs words did not effect shinjis outcome. In the court segment, he made it clear he originally wanted to leave human life and start fresh somewhere else, even before the fire.
Ngl i thought that meat was going to turn out as being human
You know, I once got myself indulged in anime just like some of my 'anime worm' friends. And soon after I got back to my conscience after 3 months of addiction and obsessiveness to anime, I realized that I my empathy drastically had decreased and probably experienced a short term schizophrenia. Thank goodness I'm still sane.
医師の翻訳がおかしいような…
彼は日本語で、「容疑者を死に逃げさせてはいけない。容疑者を死なせてはいけない。」って言ってる。
私の知識不足であれば、すみません。
I've heard from my bro that this is also when the KyoAni is starting a plan to animate Violet Evergarden. The author of Violet Evergarden has a friend in KyoAni that is also one of the person who di3d in the incident.
(IDK if this is true, I just heard it.)
Just because he had accepted his fate, does not mean he had accepted the gravity of what he had done. In honesty, he probably lacked the base empathy it would take fully comprehend the impact of his actions. I’m not claiming he lacked empathy entirely, just the amount needed to accept how he had impacted others. He was still stuck in the mindset that he was the victim, and thus could not see that he was the offender.
He's burning in hell now I'm sure
Otaku culture in japan is totally different than in other countries. On the west we call ourselves otaku just because we watch and enjoy anime or manga. But in japan it's mainly crazy obession to the point when humans stop being humans. I can understand why it's negatively perceived in Japan because adults behave like mentaly ill kids without realising what and how their activities and behaviour affects others and society. Awful. Just because of the anime scene to make such horrendous act, idioticaly ridiculous. And at the end it all comes when people do not fear God and what will be with their soul after this Earthly life. Sad, truly sad.
I just found this video and thank you for explaining in details of the whole incident and aftermath. It feels so painful hearing what that mother said about her daughter who only joined a month ago into KyoAni, probably after studying and working really hard to become an animator, and got into KyoAni, a studio that made so many anime loved by many people. I'm an artist myself and I love KyoAni animes very much and hope to one day be able to make animation myself. I don't ever want to forget this tragic incident but I hope time will heal the victims and their families' heart, be hopeful for the future instead of being pinned down by the past, keeping this in their heart but also continue to move forward with their lives. Bless the survivors and those who lost their loved ones.
Did you/will you make a follow up about Look Back? Apparently Fujimoto wrote/drew it to honor Kyoani, to the point of naming the main characters after himself and KyoAni
There's a darker anime than this go for a punch 👊
I remembered this anime like idk 5 yrs? I never remembered this anime until now and seeing that this anime stopped and the accident that happened is truly heartbreaking my condolences for the workers in kyoto animation who died 😢
Is this all because of the one Anime??????
That a moron…
why did it take over 5 or 6 years for the judge to give a death sentence? its a no brainer for his punishment
Just shows how much stupid joker's one bad day monologue is and people glorify it as if it's the right and sensible thing to do in the world. Batman's response is perfect that it's not about everyone and everything being messed up, it's about you and your own flaws. You're just too stupid and clueless to see it.
What’s really insane is he did this on my birthday and I remembered I cried that morning (I sometimes cry on my birthday idk why) but it’s very freakish to think about now..
Damm, I'm starting to think being an otaku is a serious mental illness. My dad used to say, "what the hell is wrong with this generation," everytime he saw kids cosplaying and doing weird poses on the streets.
Damn, the guy insulting the perp on 2c was spot on

This just shows how crazy japanese people are like that scene is so irrelevant and happens in lots of animes, dramas, movies, etc …
Woah!! I remember watching this while listening to funky town and reading catcher in the rye!
mmm im sure he did submit it , japan tends to lie about things like this.
Kyoto animation is one of only work friendly studios with aesthetic animation and no overwork unlike other studio. So why w
This sounds like psychosis or paranoid schizophrenia. Absolutely terrifying and beyond tragic. Thank goodness some sort of justice was served. The poor families of these victims, unimaginable suffering.
Rest in peace💔
The mom part make me crying very hard🤧🤧
So this is the reason why We didn't get a season 2 of hyouka
I never knew it was about that scene, but I remember that day so clearly, it was the darkest day in anime history. It’s so sad to see 😢
reminds me of an anime movie I just watched, “Look Back”
At the beginning of the video I was wondering how anything could be worse than what happened to kyoani… And then I realized that was the topic of this video
Pos monster
Rip
I remember the fire happened the day after I got back from Japan my group literally had driven near there days before it happened
I remember this crime back in the day. thanks for the closure
The title is misleading and puts a bad light on the anime's name. The guy never submitted anything so the scene shouldn't be blamed.
This guy was crazy and delusional and took so many lives.
Anime doesn't create murderers…mental illness does.
nah, Berserk is more dark
Darker than Black?
The reason why this anime industry was burnt because they don't make as good anime as you think, most of the anime I watched had very poor writing and storyline even
the Manga is unreadable, this is why anime industries was burnt probably, that guy had more reasons to burn anime industry
They healed him, then sentenced him to death. Crazy world we live in.
Edit: ah it’s for the families to get closure
The doctor's words had nothing to do with his decision. This kid was too selfish to actually hear what the doctor said and understand what he meant.
He probably decided to accept the death penalty because his injuries were so painful he didn't want to go on. He can't use his hands, he now faces the monster, he created, in the mirror daily. He wanted to die before. This is how he accomplished that.
He's a coward that doesn't understand emotions. Period.
The doctor was trying to keep him alive to face court, so the justice would be the death penalty. Most emergency response teams feel like that. They want justice and the suspect dying outside of the death penalty gives the suspect the power that he took his life. This way, the court did.
This is a sad case. Too bad nobody asked him, who actually stole your idea? What person took your creation? He was just a hateful person who knew he wasn't good enough. Instead of trying to get better, he became a narcissistic coward.
newgens just finding out about this story
to everyone reading this I just want to let you know that you are Loved by Jesus Christ and that you are important to him no matter who you are or what you've done. ( Matthew 18:21-22 & Ephesians 1:7)
If you're ever going through depression, sorrow, betrayal, in need of understanding, addiction, loneliness, have anxiety or just in need of comfort just call on Jesus and He will be there for you.
in Matthew 11:28-30 he says he invites everyone who is troubled and dealing with any heavy burdens asking them to come to Him so he can help.
I hope your day goes well and know that Jesus Christ will always love you. He is Love and He will never leave you nor forsake you.
That court room drawing @4:09 is highly accurate 👍🏾
